What is Interact?

Interact is a community service club! We are sponsored by our local rotary club, El Cerrito Rotary. We work hard to raise money for non-profit organizations all around the world. In the past, we’ve had different district projects; a district project is one organization a year which all the clubs in the 5160 District work to raise money for. But this year, we are planning to do more! Not only will we raise money for the district project, we are going to raise money for other organizations that club members are passionate for. Examples of  previous district projects include Heifer International, an organization dedicated to feeding families by providing them livestock and LN-4, an organization dedicated to giving hands to survivors of land mines, vehicular, industrial and agricultural accidents, acts of violence and political oppression, or people who are born without limbs. Not only do we raise money for non-profit organizations, but we love to give back to our community. We have board members dedicated to searching for organizations here in the Bay Area that need help. Examples of organizations that we’ve helped in the past include the International Rescue Commission, Bay Area Rescue Mission, and local elementary schools like Harding and Castro. We have high hopes for this year. Thank you so much for your support and interest!

Organizations We Have in Mind:

PACE Universal: PACE’s slogan is “You educate a boy, you benefit that individual.  You educate a girl, you benefit that community." PACE (Promise of Assurance to Children Everywhere) raises funds to build schools in India for girls. They are currently raising funds for the first prototype Piyali Learning Center.

Jean Cadet Restavek Foundation: Restavek children are children living in Haiti. However, they are enslaved and forced to do manual labor for their “hosts” in exchange for a roof to live under, little amounts of food and a harsh life. Most children are beaten, sexually abused and denied access to education. This foundation raises money to invest in Haiti, to provide these children with education and to show the world what is happening.

Liberty in North Korea (LiNK): There is a crisis in North Korean right now. People are suffering, starving and struggling to stay alive in political concentration camps. These refugees have tried to flee, risking torture or execution if caught and many women and children face the danger of sex trafficking or being enslaved. This organization strives to educate, protect, advocate for, provide and empower these North Koreans with the money they raise.
